Bank statement MT940
You import bank statements in MT940 format from your online banking.
- Format
- MT940 (file extension .sta or .txt)
- Access rights
- Administrator, write access to payments
- Example file
- mt940_beispiel.txt (download)
In short: Upload the MT940 file of your bank without changing it. vynst takes over the transactions, recognises those that already exist and then assigns the new ones to invoices, direct debits and accounts.
What you need this for
Some banks only deliver bank statements as MT940. With this import, the transactions still arrive in vynst.
Before you start
- Rights: Administrator with write access for payments.
- Uploading: Under Settings → Import (Einstellungen → Import). In the dialog “Bank imports” (Bank-Importe), MT940 files cannot be selected.
Prepare the file
- Change nothing: Upload the file exactly as the bank provides it.
- File extension:
.staor.txt. - Content: The file begins with
:20:STARTUMS.
What is taken over
| Information | Where in vynst |
|---|---|
| Amount | Amount of the booking, always in EUR |
| Value date (Wertstellung) | Date of the booking |
| Name of the counterparty and its IBAN | Name and bank details of the booking |
| Payment reference (SVWZ) | Name of the booking |
A booking is recognised by date, IBAN, payment reference and booking text. If the bank changes one of these texts, the same booking may be treated as new.

How to proceed
- Download the MT940 file from the bank.
- Settings → Import → Add (Einstellungen → Import → Hinzufügen), select the file.
- Check in the log how many bookings were read.
- The assignment then runs in the background.
Good to know
- vynst recognises bookings that have already been imported and skips them. Overlapping periods are not a problem.
- Each file creates a new group in the list of bank imports. This group remains even if all bookings are already known.
